- On June 6th, over $340K was awarded to 70 music classrooms in diversified communities and in communities of low to moderate income levels.
- For example, $6,000 was awarded to Quincy Middle School so that sheet music, music stands and instruments could be purchased. According to music teacher Shania Stuckley, “We are currently working with an extremely limited music library, no sound system, and no ability to perform at community events or festivals. We would like to build community through performing in our town.” Quincy Middle School has a 100% free and reduced lunch program.
- Squalicum High School was also awarded $6,000. According to music teacher Kay Rile, who was requesting percussion instruments, “I have never been able to purchase actual instrument of this significance since I started in 2006. These kids deserve an instrument that isn’t 35 years old.” Squalicum High Schools has a 50% free and reduced lunch program.
- And finally, Pamela Baade, Director of Client and Community Relations for PNC Bank, our Presenting Sponsor for Play It Forward 2024, presented Clover Park High School Music Director, Geoffrey Smith, with a $6,000 check to go toward marching band music instruments from Music Aid Northwest. Pamela Baade is proud alumni of Clover Park High School so this was a special moment for her and PNC Bank. Pamela was accompanied by Board Members James Metzger and Steven Gerri.
The instruments and other musical items purchased with MANW grants are used multiple years and by multiple students each year. Your support of Music Aid Northwest is going a long, long way to help hundreds of thousands of students across our state.
