Play It Forward 11 raises $250,000 for music education
On Saturday, April 29, Play It Forward 11 presented by PNC Bank turned it up to 11 and raised almost $250,000 for Music Education in Washington State once again shattering previous year’s totals. With the largest crowd of any Play It Forward and performances by students and former grant recipients, this year truly was a great night of music and fun.
Former grant recipient Carina DeAngelo took the stage to speak on how music education and Music Aid Northwest changed her life. The recent American Idol contestant and successful entrepreneur then sang and played piano giving a stunning performance of a song American Idol decided not to air.
Gigi White accepted a Lifetime Washington Music Icon Awards for her husband and MANW co-founder Alan White in recognition of his love of music and passion for sharing his lifetime of experience with up-and-coming musicians. Alan’s longtime friend and bandmate Steve Boyce was on-hand with Gigi to accept the award on Alan’s behalf.
Megan Jasper who started at Sup Pop in 1989 received the 2023 Washington Music Icon Award. Her journey at SubPop not only shaped the label, but shaped Seattle’s music scene. Last year’s Washington Music Icon Susan Silver and STG Executive Director Josh Labelle presented Megan with the award. As Josh shared: Megan Jasper truly is filthy, fabulous, and femme!
After a successful night of music and fundraising, Sway took the stage to keep the party going.
