Board Meets Lieutenant Governor

Brad Owen offers official endorsement

On October 6, 2008, a Music Aid Northwest delegation, including Dave and Danille Turissini, Alan and Gigi White, Reek Havok, and Attorney Michael Nesteroff, traveled to the State Capitol in Olympia to meet with Washington State's Lt. Governor Brad Owen. The board and Mr. Owen discussed the legislative process involved with the Music Matters custom license plate, which the Lt. Governor has offered his official endorsement.

Updated information on the Music Matters specialty license plate project is expected to be announced early in 2010.

Acclaimed Pacific Northwest Rock Artists Teamed with Classical Music Community

Founding members of Heart Steve Fossen, Roger Fisher, Michael Derosier, Howard Leese and up and coming powerhouse vocalist Somor Macek joined Alan White, Tracy Bonham, Geoffery Castle, Marty Riemer and more in this concert that benefited Music Aid Northwest. Originally founded by Fossen and Fisher, Heart rose to fame in the 1970s on the success of the albums Dreamboat Annie, Magazine, Little Queen and Dog and Butterfly fueled by singles such as Magic Man, Crazy on You and the mega hit Barracuda.

The concert also featured a 46 piece chamber orchestra conducted by internationally recognized Dr. Nikolas Caoile, Director of Orchestras at Central Washington University. and comprised of some of the area’s finest professional classical musicians with selected players from Washington State All-State groups and regional youth and public school orchestras.

MAN Contributes to WMEA Fund

On January 13, 2010, Music Aid Northwest board members Alan and Gigi White, Bob Tomberg and Reek Havok presented WMEA with a check for $2160; the proceeds of our October 2009 Play It Forward event. The funds will support WMEA’s Young Musicians Excelling (YME) program, which helps young musicians attend state music competitions.
